The Rock Unleashes His Inner Anti-Hero: A Review of Black Adam (2022)

Updated: Mar 23, 2023

The 2022 superhero film directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson in the titular role. The movie tells the origin story of Black Adam, a powerful anti-hero from the DC Comics universe, who gains incredible powers and seeks vengeance against those who have wronged him.

The film is a thrilling and action-packed ride from start to finish, with jaw-dropping visual effects and intense fight scenes. Johnson is perfectly cast as Black Adam, bringing a mix of charisma, intensity, and vulnerability to the role. The supporting cast is also strong, including Aldis Hodge as Hawkman and Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher.

One of the film's biggest strengths is its ability to balance the action with a compelling story and character development. The movie explores themes of power, justice, and revenge, and provides a nuanced portrayal of Black Adam's motivations and inner turmoil. The film also includes several surprising twists and turns – it kept me engaged and invested throughout.

While the movie is undeniably entertaining, it does have flaws. Some scenes feel rushed while character backstories could have been better. Pierce Brosnan’s character is woefully underutilized.

Overall, "Black Adam" is a thrilling and entertaining superhero movie that delivers on both action and story. With a strong performance by Dwayne Johnson and a compelling story, the film is sure to satisfy both fans of the DC Comics universe and general moviegoers alike.
