Skyscraper (2018): Nakatomi Plaza On Steroids
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson takes center stage in Skyscraper, an action thriller that combines crazy stunts with heart-pumping suspense. Directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber, the film delivers a ride of intense moments as it soars high above the city skyline. This is a futuristic Die Hard!
The story revolves around Will Sawyer (Dwayne Johnson), a former FBI Hostage Rescue Team leader who now assesses security for skyscrapers. When a state-of-the-art tower called "The Pearl" is set ablaze by terrorists, Will's family finds themselves trapped inside the burning building. Determined to save his loved ones, Will embarks on a death-defying mission to rescue them, fighting against time and towering odds.
Skyscraper stands out for its awe-inspiring visual effects. Dwayne Johnson's physical prowess brings an intensity to the film, making him a force to be reckoned with in every frame. The integration of practical and CGI effects enhances the experience, as the tension builds with each floor Will must conquer to reach his family (such as the one on the poster above). Neve Campbell delivers a good performance as Sarah Sawyer, Will's wife, who proves to be a formidable partner in the battle for survival.
The pacing of the film is alright, with action sequences constantly flowing through. The motivations of the villain are as predictable as they can be. There is nothing new about the plot - huge building taken over by terrorists and a single man fighting to save everyone? Sound familiar Mr. John Mclane?
Overall, the movie has great visuals, continuous action and the usual Dwayne Johnson charm.
I rate it 2.75 out of 5.
