Resolution (2012): Resolving the Unknown Conundrums

Resolution, directed by Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, is a mind-bending exploration of friendship, addiction, and the blurred lines between reality and fiction.

The film follows Michael (Peter Cilella), who receives a troubling video from his estranged friend, Chris (Vinny Curran), depicting bizarre and disturbing behavior. Determined to help Chris overcome his struggles with addiction, Michael ventures to an isolated cabin where Chris is holed up. As the two friends grapple with occurrences and unsettling revelations, the line between their reality and a mysterious force at play begins to blur.

What sets Resolution apart is its ability to blend mystery and horror with intellectual depth. The film is a example in building tension through psychological unease and silence rather than relying on conventional scares. The performances of Peter Cilella and Vinny Curran contribute significantly to this as well. The cinematography captures the desolate beauty of the cabin's surroundings, adding an atmospheric layer to the overall experience. The soundtrack complements this eerie ambiance very well - the only negative is that some scenes seem to drag on a bit.

While the conclusion may leave some aspects open to interpretation, Resolution is a thinking person's horror/mystery film. It proves that such mysteries can be both chilling and intellectually stimulating. Definite watch - don't miss this one.
