Raymond Did It (2011): A Twisted Tale and An Average Slasher

Raymond Did It, directed by Travis Legge, is a horror-slasher that delves into the disturbed mind of its titular character, Raymond, and the events that follow. The title kind of gives it away, doesn't it?

The story centers around Raymond (Kyle Hoskins), a mentally challenged young man wrongfully accused of a heinous crime. He is imprisoned and put away and as he escapes from a mental institution, revenge is the only thing he desires.

While the movie's low-budget origins are evident, it tries to compensate with committed performances from the cast, but still falls short. Hoskins delivers a convincing portrayal of Raymond, and the film succeeds in creating an eerie atmosphere. The film struggles to strike a balance between psychological horror and traditional slasher elements, resulting in an identity crisis that diminishes its impact.

However, that is all there is to say - there is no story, logic or any sense to the script. The dialogues are terrible, the effects are just not there and even the pacing is everywhere. The only possible point of redemption is that you kind of want Raymond to extract revenge on everyone.

Even for a slasher, this is just average.
