Prey for the Devil (2022): A Diabolical Delight for Horror Fans - For the Most Part.

Updated: Mar 23, 2023

Prey for the Devil is a clear example of a movie with a clever idea but poor execution. From the opening scene, this movie grips you with its dark and ominous tone, its off beat approach and tries to take you on a terrifying journey that will keep you guessing until the very end. But believe me, you will be able to guess what comes at the end.

The story follows Sister Ann (Jacqueline Byers) who believes she is answering a calling to be the first female exorcist. Ann wants admission to a Catholic Church-reopened exorcism school. It’s obviously against the norm, but a professor (Colin Salmon) sees Sister Ann's abilities and decides to train her. Sister Ann is thrown onto the spiritual frontlines alongside fellow student Father Dante (Christian Navarro) in a war for the soul of a little girl, whom Sister Ann believes is possessed by the same demon that plagued her own mother years ago.

The cinematography is stunning, with beautiful shots of the wilderness and the church, which serve to contrast with the horrific events that take place. You can't help but feel invested in the characters and their fates as the story unfolds. The jump scares keep on coming at regular intervals and someone wanting to watch a decent possession movie will not be disappointed.
