Goodfellas (1990): A Masterclass in Gangster Cinema

Updated: Mar 23, 2023

Martin Scorsese's Goodfellas is a true cinematic masterpiece that has stood the test of time since its release in 1990. The film tells the story of Henry Hill, a young man who rises through the ranks of the mafia, only to become entangled in a web of deceit, betrayal, and violence.

The performances by the ensemble cast, including Robert De Niro, Ray Liotta, and Joe Pesci, are nothing short of exceptional. Scorsese's direction is masterful, as he expertly blends suspense, humor, and tragedy in a way that keeps the audience engaged from beginning to end.

The camera work is great, the dialogues are witty and authentic and the soundtrack makes you feel all warm and fuzzy. There are so many great movies to watch, and this sits somewhere amidst the top for sure.

A movie which is not to be missed - even if you may not be a fan of the mafia genre.
