From Beyond the Grave, Stephen King's Resurrected Classic: Pet Sematary (2019)

Pet Sematary is a 2019 horror film directed by Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmyer, based on the novel of the same name by Stephen King. The film stars Jason Clarke, Amy Seimetz, and John Lithgow.

The story revolves around a family who move to a rural town in Maine and discover a mysterious burial ground in the woods behind their new home. After a tragedy strikes their family, they turn to the burial ground to bring their loved one back from the dead, but they soon realize that some things are better left buried.

It is a decent horror film that delivers plenty of scares and tension. The performances by the cast are strong, particularly Jason Clarke and John Lithgow, who bring depth to their respective roles.

The film's cinematography is also impressive, with the dark and eerie atmosphere of the forest adding to the overall sense of dread. The film's pacing is also effective, with the tension building steadily throughout the runtime, leading to a climax that is intense.

One of the film's strengths is its willingness to deviate from the source material, which allows the filmmakers to offer some surprises for those who are familiar with the original story. However, some fans of the book may find these changes to be too drastic, as they alter some of the core elements of the story.

While it may not be as iconic as the original novel or the 1989 film adaptation, it stands on its own as a worthwhile addition to the franchise. I do recommend watching this at least once.

I rate it 2.75 out of 5.
