Extraction (2020): Saving Lives, Taking Names

Extraction, directed by Sam Hargrave and starring Chris Hemsworth, is a high-octane action thriller that plunges you into a world of danger, suspense, and redemption. Set in the gritty backdrop of Dhaka, Bangladesh, the film follows Tyler Rake (Chris Hemsworth), a fearless black ops mercenary, as he embarks on a treacherous mission to rescue the kidnapped son of an imprisoned Indian crime lord.

The film wastes no time, throwing in action from the very beginning. Chris Hemsworth's portrayal of Tyler Rake is both compelling and convincing, as he navigates the world of mercenaries. Hemsworth's physicality and charisma add depth to the character, making Rake more than just a one-dimensional action hero. The antagonist, Saju Rav (Randeep Hooda), offers a decent performance but is limited by his underexplored backstory.

Director Sam Hargrave, a former stunt coordinator, brings his expertise to the forefront, crafting intense action set-pieces - from hand-to-hand combat to car chases, each scene is well choreographed and executed as such. The film's cinematography deserves special mention, with long, continuous shots that draw you into the chaos of Dhaka's streets and buildings.

As the rescue mission unfolds, Extraction shows themes of redemption, sacrifice, and the consequences of violence. There is also good emotional chemistry between Tyler Rake and Ovi Mahajan Jr. (Rudhraksh Jaiswal), the kidnapped boy. There is nothing new to the story - it is the execution where such movies shine.

Extraction showcases the prowess of its cast and director, leaving you with an adrenaline rush. Extra points to Chris for his excellent portrayal.
