Baywatch (2017): Sun, Sand, and Shenanigans

Baywatch is a wild ride through sun-soaked beaches, showcasing a blend of action, comedy, and lifeguard drama. Inspired by the iconic '90s television series, this big-screen adaptation dives into the world of lifeguards patrolling the shores of Emerald Bay. With an all-star cast and plenty of tongue-in-cheek humor, Baywatch delivers a lighthearted experience.

The energetic Lieutenant Mitch Buchannon and Baywatch, his elite group of hand-selected and flawlessly tanned lifeguards, defend Emerald Bay in order to keep both beachgoers and sunbathers safe. This summer, however, two eager new recruits as well as a disobedient former Olympian swimmer will join the rigorous life-saving programme. They will all be required to demonstrate their abilities on the lifeguard towers just as the flakka, a new synthetic street drug, starts to infest the Emerald Bay.

Dwayne Johnson leads the ensemble cast as Mitch Buchannon, the dedicated and charismatic lifeguard who takes his duties a little too seriously. Paired with Zac Efron's Matt Brody, a former Olympic swimmer turned cocky newcomer, their chemistry only works due to Johnson's charisma and dialogue delivery.

The film relies on juvenile humor and innuendos, and it tries to create a lighthearted and fun atmosphere. The jokes may not always hit the mark, but the film's self-deprecating tone and commitment to absurdity keep the laughter flowing. The cast's comedic talents, including Alexandra Daddario, Kelly Rohrbach, and Jon Bass, contribute to the film's humorous moments, providing a mix of physical comedy and witty banter.

Although predictable at times, the story does its job of keeping you engaged. The sun-soaked cinematography and picturesque coastal landscapes are a treat to watch - not to mention the characters being in beach wear for most of the movie. Get ready to dive in for a 100 mins of sun, sand and shenanigans!
